College students are notorious for hitting the snooze button on a lot of things: 8 a.m. classes, dirty dishes, laundry—but now they can add food deliveries to the list. Grubhub just rolled out “Snooze Insurance,” a limited-time perk that gives sleepy students a do-over when they accidentally fall asleep before their late-night order arrives.

The new program is exclusive to Grubhub+ Student members, who can claim a $15 “Snooze Insurance” credit if they miss their delivery because they passed out waiting for it. No long forms or pleading emails to customer support, just a self-aware, tongue-in-cheek safety net for the kind of late-night food mishap nearly every college student has experienced at least once. In fact, according to the company’s press release, ““72% of college students have missed their late-night delivery order throughout their college career.”

Here’s how it works: through November 1, Grubhub+ Student members can grab the deal by texting “DELIVERY” to 1-844-954-OOPS (6677) every Saturday at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET. Each week, a limited batch of $15 do-over codes drops for qualifying orders of $15 or more: first come, first served.

Student members who earn a code and place a qualifying late-night order can file a claim if they snooze through their delivery drop-off. The $15 credit is automatically applied to their account, essentially giving them a second shot at their midnight munchies. The offer is limited, but the internet has already decided it’s one of Grubhub’s most relatable ideas to date.
Grubhub’s announcement leaned into the humor of it all. “We know the drill: students get a late-night craving, place their Grubhub order, and then between studying and late-night hangs, the couch wins and sleep sneaks in,” said Christopher Krautler, Director of Grubhub Consumer Communications and Brand Marketing, in the company’s October 21 press release. “Grubhub Snooze Insurance is about understanding that college life runs on its own schedule. If anyone deserves a second chance at getting that midnight fix, it’s students juggling academics, social life, and sleep.”

The idea came from the reality of campus life. Late-night delivery orders are practically a rite of passage, especially during midterms and finals, when many students crash before the doorbell rings and wake up to the haunting sight of a cold burrito being carried away by raccoons. Grubhub is betting that forgiving those moments, and turning them into a funny, loyalty-building perk, will resonate more than another free-delivery promo.
The perk also highlights how aggressively delivery apps are courting younger users. Grubhub+ Student already includes unlimited $0 delivery fees, lower service charges, and access to exclusive deals. Adding “Snooze Insurance” takes it from a practical subscription to a pop-culture punchline—and a pretty effective one at that.
Delish called the promotion “the most relatable thing Grubhub has ever done,” and social media agreed. TikTok comments range from “finally, my time has come” to “this is real?” Critics might roll their eyes, but it’s clever marketing. College students are a fiercely loyal (and perpetually hungry) demographic. Give them a meme-worthy moment and they’ll share it faster than you can say “extra cheese.”
