Lost money because of Hurricane Milton? These SBA loans still available

Small businesses and nonprofits in 17 Florida counties can apply for federal disaster loans for losses from Hurricane Milton.
The deadline to apply for an Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) with the Small Business Administration is Jan. 22.
Loans of up to $2 million are available to help with working capital needs like payroll and fixed debts.
Small business owners and private nonprofit organizations who lost money due to Hurricane Milton last year can still apply for low interest federal disaster loans, but time is running out.
The disaster declaration covers 17 Florida counties for losses incurred between Oct. 9-10, 2024, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The deadline to file is Jan. 22.
Milton came right on the heels of Hurricane Helene, causing widespread flooding and devastation. NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) estimated that Milton caused $34.3 billion in damage in the United States, almost all of it in Florida. Nearly 40 people were killed in Florida, 12 directly.
By mid-April, the SBA approved more than $1.4 billion in federal disaster loans to support Florida businesses, nonprofits, homeowners, and renters affected by hurricanes Helene and Milton in 2024, according to a release.
