Two men have been found guilty by a jury in a dispute about car insurance that resulted in a fatal shooting.
Denzel Garrison, 33, of Atlantic City, and Laquine Demby, 35, of Pleasantville, were convicted in the death of 28-year-old Jahmil Greenidge, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement on Monday.
Evidence presented at trial showed that Garrison was involved in a minor motor vehicle crash with the victim two weeks before the murder. The two men then became involved in a dispute over who would pay the insurance deductible, according to the prosecution.
Garrison then asked Demby, a friend of his, to help him kill Greenidge, according to the evidence.
On May 19, 2021, Demby drove Garrison to the victim’s Atlantic City apartment, where they parked and waited for about an hour before he returned home from work, prosecutors said. As Greenidge was entering his apartment building, Garrison came up behind him and shot him six times, according to the prosecutors.
The two men fled the scene before police arrived, authorities said. Greenidge was pronounced dead on the scene, officials said.
Following a two-week trial, Garrison was convicted of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and multiple weapons offenses. Demby was found guilty of murder as an accomplice and conspiracy to commit murder.
Both men have been in custody since their arrests in October 2021. They will be sentenced on May 13.
