Chuck Clark, veteran safety, signs with Detroit Lions

PHOENIX – The Detroit Lions continue to add veteran depth to their roster, signing safety Chuck Clark on Tuesday, March 31.
Clark, who turns 31 next month, played in 15 games, with five starts, for the Pittsburgh Steelers last season after starting for the New York Jets and Baltimore Ravens early in his career.
Clark gives the Lions more insurance for a secondary that has major questions entering the 2026 season.
Starting safeties Brian Branch (Achilles) and Kerby Joseph (knee) are coming off season-ending injuries, and starting cornerback Terrion Arnold’s name has been mentioned in conjunction with a kidnapping and assault case in Florida.
Arnold has not been arrested and has denied any involvement in the case through his attorney. Lions coach Dan Campbell said Monday the team is monitoring the case but does not expect Arnold to face any repercussions.
The Lions signed cornerback Roger McCreary and safety/slot cornerback Christian Izien for depth this offseason and return Thomas Harper as a backup safety.
Clark was a regular starter for the Ravens for most of the 2019-22 seasons before missing the 2023 season with a torn ACL he suffered in an offseason practice. He has five interceptions for his career.
