PGA Tour Injury Report: After Concerning Upset, Hideki Matsuyama Finally Reveals His Current Health Issues

The list of players who withdrew from the fourth event of the 2025 calendar, the Farmers Insurance Open, showed no sign of stopping. There had been more than 12 withdrawals. Even more surprising, Ryan Moore, who had stepped in as a replacement for Will Zalatoris, also withdrew. Since the start of the 2025 schedule, the news of golfers’ withdrawals has shocked the PGA Tour.
This was all because of a rapidly spreading flu in the area. While a lot of them withdrew, Hideki Matsuyama, despite suffering from it, decided to conclude the event. But that got him a worse finish. At the Farmer’s Insurance Open, he closed the final round with a disappointing 76, and dropped down to a T32, tying with seven other players. His score was a 1-over, which was disappointing for the fans of the 11X PGA Tour champion.
However, it looks like, there might be a better update. Matsuyama will be teeing off at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am from January 30. Ahead of the second Signature event, Golf Injury Report took to their official X account and reported, “Hideki Matsuyama was also one of the golfers dealing with flu-like symptoms last week at The Farmers. He said he’s feeling better and expects a bounce back this week.”

Hideki Matsuyama came out fairly well for the new season. But the question is, what exactly are his odds of winning the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am?
Hideki Matsuyama’s momentum so far
If you tuned into this year’s Sentry Tournament of Champions, you couldn’t have missed Hideki Matsuyama making waves. The 11-time PGA Tour winner kicked off his season in spectacular fashion, including one of the tournament’s most unforgettable shots. On the par-4 third hole, Matsuyama holed out from 107 yards for an eagle, extending his lead over Collin Morikawa to three strokes. And he didn’t stop there—he rode that momentum all the way through, finishing with a new PGA Tour record of a mind-blowing 35-under-par 257.
Sure, his next few events weren’t quite on the same level. He finished tied for 16th at the Sony Open and T32 at the Farmers Insurance Open—not bad, but not quite Sentry-worthy magic. Now, he’s back at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. The good news? He’s no stranger to the course, having played here last year where he finished T71. And this year, he will definitely look to better his performance.
Do you think he will be able to get back the Sentry magic in California this weekend? Stay tuned to find out!
