This Nevada town named one of the most expensive vacation destinations

GOBankingRates, a personal finance company, recently ranked the most expensive vacation spots in the United States. One Nevada city made the list.
To create the rankings, GOBankingRates cross-referenced TripAdvisor’s Top Destinations, Travel + Leisure’s 2024 Top U.S. Cities and U.S. News & World Report’s Best Cities lists. It then pulled data from the U.S. Census American Community Survey, Numbeo’s Cost of Living, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics and Hotels.com to estimate how much a trip would cost.
The study assumed two adults traveling for three nights, with airfare searched June 4 for the weekend of Aug. 7-10. Costs factored in 15 meals (three mid-range, 12 inexpensive), six beers, six sodas, flights into the nearest airport and the average of the three cheapest hotels within five miles of the city center.
Las Vegas, known for its tourism and hospitality, received the No. 53 spot out of 55 on GOBankingRates America’s Most Expensive Tourist Destinations list. This means that the Southern Nevada city was determined to be more expensive than Kissimme and Clearwater, Florida, but was a cheaper vacation destination than all the other cities on the list.
Here’s a closer look at how expsensive a trip to Las Vegas is, where the most expensive vacation destination in the U.S. is and ways to save.
What is the average cost of a trip to Las Vegas?
The GOBankingRates study showed that airfare for the hypothetical couple would cost $583, the hotel $135, meals $516 and domestic beer $6, for a total of $1,286 for a three-day weekend.
What is the most expensive vacation in America?
Aspen, Colorado, with its majestic mountains and ski slopes, was named the most expensive vacation destination in the GOBankingRates list. The flight alone for two people cost more than $1,300 with hotel costing $791 and meals costing $510. Domestic beer cost $7.50, for a total cost of $2,708 for a couple’s late summer three-day trip.
That means a vacation to Aspen, according to GOBankingRates study, is more than double the cost of a trip to Las Vegas.
What are the cheapest months to travel?
Travel + Leisure said traveling in January in general is cheaper than going on vacation other months of the year. The New York Times agrees, adding that February is also a good option for people looking for cheaper travel expenses.
