Tinley Man Accused Of Stealing Debit And Credit Cards From Mail

The account holders had not even received their credit or debit cards in the mail as expected, Palos Heights police said.
PALOS HEIGHTS, IL — A Tinley Park man is accused of stealing credit and debit cards from the mail. Sahran Almasri, 37, turned himself in Friday at the Palos Heights police station. Almasri has been charged with one felony count of aggravated identity theft, victim over the age of 60.
Palos Heights police were contactacted by the United States Postal Service regarding several credit and debit cards that went missing in the mail. The cards had later been used by unknown people.
Investigators learned that a PNC representative had reached out to the U.S .Postal Inspector with a list of suspicious purchases, along with the names of victims. Police said PNC confirmed that the account holders did make the purchases, nor had they authorized anyone to complete these purchases. The account holders had not even received their credit or debit cards in the mail as expected.

During the investigation, a Palos Heights man learned that a $9,100 charged was made against his credit card without his knowledge to a company called Hot Wheels Auto LLC. Police spoke with a company representative and learned that an employee, later identified as Almasri, who police said had used the man’s credit card.
According to the Hot Wheels Auto representative, Almasri provided an Illinois driver’s license of the Palos Heights man, along with a bill of sale and a receipt for $9,100 transaction made on Aug. 19, 2025. Police said the driver’s license provided was fake, and had the Palos Heights man’s personal information including name, date of birth and address, but the picture on license did match victim’s.
Almasri came to the police station on Friday to turn himself in, police said. The Cook County State’s Attorney approved felony charges. He was released, pending an initial court appearance on a future date at the Bridgeview Courthouse at a later date.
