Jury finds 2 police officers guilty of staging truck arson for insurance scam in Maryland

A federal jury has found two former police officers guilty of multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, arson, and bank fraud, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the District of Maryland.
Philip James Dupree, 41, of Pikesville, Md., is a former Fairmount Heights Police Department officer, while Mark Ross Johnson, Jr., 38, of Camp Springs, Md., is a former Prince George’s County Police Department officer. Dupree and Johnson worked together on two separate fraud schemes, according to a nine-count indictment.
The schemes involved filing false police reports and falsifying loss claims to obtain funds from an insurance company and three financial institutions, per court documents.
The first scheme took place in November 2018, when Dupree and Johnson orchestrated the burning of Johnson’s Ford F450 truck. While on duty, they arranged for Dupree to
