The Springfield metropolitan area has surpassed 500,000 residents, according to a community announcement.
The area recorded a population of 500,694 as of July 1, 2025, a more than 5.31% increase from the April 2020 census base of 475,435. This marks six consecutive years of steady growth, according to the announcement.
Jonas Arjes, senior vice president of economic development for the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, called the milestone a significant economic development threshold.
